But these are unprecedented times...

Are you as sick of that phrase as I am?
These are unprecedented times... so what? All times are. The word simply means we have never experienced this before. Check it out. My point is that in 2018, we had not experienced 2019, so IT was unprecedented, too. Until we get to a place in time, we have neither experienced it nor has it been known to us.
To say these are fascinating times, though, seems more accurate to me. Fear looms large for the majority of our citizens (being diagnosed with COVID 19 is not something most of want, so we are taking precautions to avoid it). We are changing the way we live our day-to-day lives... how and where we work... and educate our kids... how we shop... where we eat.
Some people also fear the changes we are seeing in the racial divide in the US, but even more people have Hope for a better future because of these changes. They imagine a world with less judgment because of the color of our skin or where we were born. A world where we realize that we are on the same team. It's not "us and them". It's just US. And, a world where the police are not enforcers of law through violence, but more of the true heroes we see everyday who Help those who need them. They are connected to the communities they have sworn to protect and serve.
Change is hard for many people. It's different from what is known and familiar. Even if today's reality is not what we truly desire, the unknown of tomorrow can be overwhelming for some. But if we want a different tomorrow, we have to make the change today... and change can be a very good thing. But it will be different... and it is unprecedented.

Personally, I try to embrace change. Sometimes it makes me uneasy... I'm not sure if I'm ready for the next phase. Will I survive? What if I fail?! Then I think back over the course of my life. It's all been about change. The real question is how am I going to influence the next phase? This is an Opportunity to set a new course for my journey. It may or may not be radically different from what I am doing now, but I can guarantee you it will change. It has to.
I believe we are at a pivotal point in time. We are living history right now. In 80 years, as we head into the third millenium, people will look back to 2020 and say "That's where things really started to change." What are we going to do make this a positive change for US?
